Bioshock - XBox 360 Mini Review

Picked up the anticipated Bioshock 360 game on Tuesday.  After playing the Bioshock demo from the 360 Marketplace, this game was a no brainer to get.  It’s not your typical first person shooter.  It combines elements of suvival horror and fantasy.  Bioshock starts off just like the demo does.  Basically you are on a plane which crashes into the ocean and are forced to take safety in a tower rising out of the ocean.

Right from the beginning you can see the great details that was put into this game.  After the initial crash, you find yourself in the ocent with fire all around you.  I was completely caught off guard, as I assumed I was still watching a cut-scene.  However this was the real game.

Once you take refuge in the tower, you proceed to an underwater city called Rapture.  However things are not what they appear to be despite the glowing introduction that Andrew Ryan presents.  Once arriving, you are treated to a guy getting disembowled in front of you. This is only the tip of the iceburg in Bioshock.

Bioshock keeps you constantly looking over your shoulder with great ambient music and sounds.  You always get this feeling “something” is about to happen.  I’ve probably spent about 2hrs so far playing the game and am completely satisfied with my purchase.  There were a couple of “slow” downs in the game, but that hasn’t changed my opinion of Bioshock.

Conclusion: 9/10

This game is a definte buy.  Bioshock is best played in a dark room, large screen display, and an awesome surround system.  Be prepared to be shocked many times over.

I’m currently playing this on the Philips Ambilight 2 47″ 1080p Flat-Panel LCD HDTV, using with the Pioneer Elite VSX-82TXS receiver, Axiom Audio Speakers, and SVS PB-10 Sub.
